Additional Information
Toyota has reached a settlement to compensate California residents who owned or leased certain Toyota Camry models and experienced mold buildup or unpleasant odors coming from their vehicle’s heating and air conditioning system. The settlement applies to current and former owners or lessees of 2012–2015 Toyota Camry (XV50) vehicles in California as of May 31, 2024.
The lawsuit alleged that some Camry vehicles were manufactured with HVAC systems that allowed excess moisture to collect. According to the claims, this trapped moisture could result in musty smells and, in some cases, the development of mold inside the system. Toyota has denied these allegations but agreed to resolve the matter through a settlement rather than continue litigation.
As part of the settlement, qualifying consumers may seek reimbursement for certain out-of-pocket costs connected to the alleged HVAC issue. Covered expenses include the installation or replacement of a charcoal cabin filter and services related to flushing the vehicle’s evaporator.
Costs Incurred On or After May 31, 2024:
Consumers may receive reimbursement of up to $100 for qualifying expenses incurred after this date.
Costs Incurred Before May 31, 2024:
Eligible claimants may request reimbursement for qualifying expenses incurred before this date. The specific reimbursement amount has not been publicly specified.
