Who Is Eligible?
This settlement applies to current and former owners or lessees of the following Hyundai and Kia vehicles, provided they owned or leased the vehicle as of April 14, 2025:
Hyundai:
- 2011–2019 Sonata
- 2011–2019 Sonata Hybrid
- 2018–2023 Kona
- 2022–2023 Kona N
- 2019–2021 Veloster
Kia:
- 2010–2013 Forte and Forte Koup
- 2011–2020 Optima
- 2011–2016 Optima Hybrid
- 2011–2012, 2014 Sedona
Proof of Purchase
To request reimbursement, claimants must provide proof of ownership or lease. Acceptable documents include receipts, invoices, repair records, or, if documentation is unavailable, a signed affidavit.

Additional Information
Hyundai and Kia have agreed to a $62.1 million settlement to resolve claims that certain vehicles were equipped with defective ZF-TRW airbag control units (ACUs). These ACUs allegedly could malfunction, potentially preventing airbags from deploying properly in the event of a collision.
While Hyundai and Kia deny any wrongdoing, the settlement offers compensation and additional protections to eligible owners and lessees.
What Settlement Class Members May Receive
Reimbursement for Out-of-Pocket Expenses:
Includes costs such as towing, rental cars, childcare, repairs, and lost wages related to airbag issues or recall repairs.
Residual Cash Payments:
- Up to $350 for vehicles that were subject to a recall
- Up to $150 for vehicles that were not recalled
Additional Benefits:
- Extended parts warranty for recalled vehicles
- Comprehensive inspections and outreach to ensure recalls are completed
- Rental car reimbursement or loaner vehicles while repairs or inspections are performed
Eligible class members must submit a valid claim form by March 29, 2027, to receive benefits.
This settlement follows other recent airbag-related resolutions, including an $8.5 million Mitsubishi settlement and a $78.5 million Toyota settlement.
